Make Your Barn, Outdoor Living Space or Bathroom more Decorative and Rustic with Metal Exterior Barn Hearts and Stars. We offer Handmade Amish Metal Barn Themed Home Décor including Stars and Hearts.
If you have a barn that is a bit boring or just enjoy classic rustic barn themed decor it can be difficult to find decorative outdoor items large enough for the exterior of your barn or rustic enough for your bathroom. Barn stars are classic pieces of home decor that have been used to add a rustic touch to the exterior of barns, outhouses and other outbuildings as well as the interior of bathrooms for many years. Barn stars and hearts are timeless pieces of home décor that never go out of style.
Traditional exterior barn and bathroom stars are handmade from metal so that they will last and be able to withstand the outdoor elements. When purchasing a metal barn star or decorative heart is important that it is the right size. If the metal barn star or heart is going to be used on the exterior of a barn or other outbuilding it needs to be large enough to be seen and not be dwarfed by the large outdoor barn. If it is going to be used as bathroom decor or in another room of the home it needs to be smaller. Most home and garden decor stores carry a very limited selection of traditional rustic metal barn stars or decorative outdoor hearts if any at all. This makes it almost impossible to find a barn heart or star that is the right size for you.
Here we offer a great selection of authentic handmade Amish metal exterior barn and bathroom stars and decorative hearts in a variety of sizes and styles. Whether you are looking for a large exterior star for the outdoors, barn or in the garden or something smaller you want to use in home or as bathroom decor we make it easy and affordable for you to find the best barn heart or star for you. All our metal barn stars and hearts are handmade by the authentic Amish community here in Ohio and are truly unique pieces you will be proud to own or give. If you have any questions about our decorative Amish metal barn stars or hearts please let us know and we will be more than happy to assist you.
TRADITION AND HISTORY OF THE BARN STAR
The tradition of the barn star in America can be traced back to the 1700’s,
And to at least the 1820’s in Pennsylvania. Barn stars were most popular after the Civil War.
On many older American barns, particularly German farms, one could see a large decoration in the shape of a star
mounted on the face of the barn. Sometimes they were just aesthetic, but sometimes they represented the trademark of a specific barn builder.
It is our understanding the original star shape was a three-pointed star but has changed throughout the years.
Colors had significance with Amish and Pennsylvania Dutch barn paintings.
These folk art designs, many of which were star shaped, were painted directly onto each end of the barn and date back to the 1850’s.
Black - Protection
Red - Emotions (passion, charisma)
White - Purity
Blue - peace, calmness and spirituality
Green - Growth
Yellow - Health in body and mind connection to God
Brown - Friendship and strength
Orange - Abundance
Violet - Sacred
The barn star composition has changed over the years. At first they were built
directly into the barn. Later the stars were crafted from a separate piece of wood
and attached to the barn.
